Jagiellonian University visited by Mayor of Iași

Jagiellonian University visited by Mayor of Iași

On 26 April 2018 the Jagiellonian University was visited by a Romanian delegation led by the Mayor of Iași Mihai Chirica. He was received by the JU Vice-Rector for University Development Prof. Dorota Malec, who was accomapnied by the Director of JU International Relations Office Dorota Maciejowska.

Iași is located in the north-eastern part of Romania. With about 300 thousand inhabitants, it is the second largest city in this country. The history of Iași dates back to the 14th century. The city is the seat of many important cultural and academic institutions, including the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, the oldest Romanian institution of higher education.

The topics discussed at the meeting in Collegium Novum included cooperation between the Jagiellonian University and higher education institutions from Jassy, which is especially strong in the field of language studies. An important platform for collaboration between the institutions is provided by university networks they are part of, such as the Coimbra Group and Utrecht Network. The meeting participants stressed the role of common historical experiences of Poland and Romania, which, as pointed out by Prof. Dorota Malec, provide an excellent basis for the further development of academic partnership.

Mihai Chirica is visiting Kraków on April 26-27 as a special guest of the 4th European Congress of Local Governments.
