Prof. Marcin Barczyński elected president of ESES

During the 8th Biennial Congress of the European Society of Endocrine Surgeons (ESES) in Amsterdam, several hundred endocrine surgeons voted for Prof. Marcin Barczyński to become the president of their organisation. Additionally, Dr hab. Aleksander Konturek was chosen for the position of auditor.



Prof. Marcin Barczyński will assume his new position in 2020 at the next ESES Congress in Athens, succeeding Prof. David Scott-Coombs from Cardiff, UK. His term will last 2 years and will end during the 10th Congress, which will be held in Rome.

Dr hab. Aleksander Konturek from the JU MC Clinic of Endocrine Surgery, head of the Clinical Department of General Surgery and Oncology of the Gabriel Narutowicz Hospital in Kraków, will be an ESES auditor in the years 2018–2020.

Prof. Marcin Barczyński collaborates with Clinic of Endocrine Surgery of the JU MC III Chair in General Surgery. He is also the deputy head of the Clinical Department of General Surgery and Oncology of the Gabriel Narutowicz Hospital in Kraków. Since 2016, he has been the president of Polish Club of Endocrine Surgery, and in 2017, he became the president of the surgery branch of the Polish Society of Endocrinology.

In 2006–2010, he presided over ESES National Delegate Committee, while in 2014–2018 he served as the organisation’s treasurer and executive board member. He was also a member of the steering committee of the EU-funded EUROCRINE project realised in 2013–2017 at the JU MC Faculty of Medicine. the aim of which was to create a pan-European registry of surgical treatments of endocrine diseases, particularly the rare ones.

European Society of Endocrine Surgeons was established in 2003 in Vienna by 43 professors from 17 European countries, including Prof. Henning Dralle, Doctor Honoris Causa of the Jagiellonian University. The aim of the organisation is to promote research and educational aspects of endocrine surgery.
