JU Rector meets with visiting professors

On 10 December, JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak met with a group of researchers coming from various foreign universities to assume the position of visiting professors at the Jagiellonian University. It is the third in a series of meetings organised within the framework of a new programme established by the JU Rector to increase the number of international staff. Aside from the Rector, the Jagiellonian University was represented by Prof. Adam Jelonek and Prof. Piotr Laidler.

Several professors that came to teach at the Jagiellonian University during the winter semester (October–January) visited the JU Collegium Novum Senate Room: Prof. Riham Bahi from the University of Cairo (JU Faculty of International and Political Studies), Prof. Roshni Sengupta from the Leiden University (JU Faculty of International and Political Studies), Prof. Zhenhai Liu from the Guangxi University for Nationalities (Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science), Prof. Mohamed Hijou from the Mohammed V University (JU Faculty of Philology), and Prof. Sandor Gebei from the Eszterházy Károly University of Applied Sciences (JU Faculty of Philology).

The participants of the meeting discussed their academic interests and the subjects of their lectures at the Kraków Alma Mater. They also devoted some time on going over the details of their stay in Kraków, including such topics as accommodation. The participants stressed the importance of intercultural dialogue and strong international cooperation of universities in the area of teaching and research.

Since the beginning of 2018, the Jagiellonian University has hosted 39 researchers from abroad within the framework of the visiting professorship programme financed from a special fund established by the rector. The visitors came from 22 countries: Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Russia, the USA, Canada, Brazil, Egypt, Morocco, India, Pakistan, China, Australia, and Thailand.
