Prof. Stanisław Biernat awarded with honorary doctorate by the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena

The conferment ceremony took place on 19 May 2015. Prof. Biernat received the diploma from Prof. Walter Rosenthal, President of the University of Jena, and Prof. Walter Pauly, Dean of the university's Faculty of Law.

The event was attended by numerous guests – representatives of government, professors, judges, lawyers and experts in the field of jurisprudence. The Jagiellonian University was represented by Prof. Jerzy Pisuliński from the Faculty of Law and Administration and Prof. Sławomir Dudzik from the Chair in European Law.

In their laudatory speeches, the hosts praised Prof. Biernat's extraordinary achievements and great contributions in the area of administrative, constitutional and European law and his commitment to the development of Polish-German cooperation.

During the ceremony, Prof. Biernat delivered a lecture devoted to the judicial decisions of the Polish Constitutional Tribunal in European legal issues.

Prof. Stanisław Biernat graduated with honours from the JU Faculty of Law in 1971. He received his PhD in 1976, and became a professor in 2000. In 2008, he was elected by the Polish parliament to be a judge in the Constitutional Tribunal. In 2010, the president of Poland appointed him the Vice-president of the Constitutional Tribunal.
