Kraków-Beijing cooperation intensifies

Kraków-Beijing cooperation intensifies

The relations between the Jagiellonian University and the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) were first established when a cooperation agreement was signed on 29 September 2006. It was then that the first Confucius Institute in Poland was created.

29 June 2015 marked another step in the development of collaboration with the Chinese university. The JU was visited by a delegation from the BSFU, which included Prof. Pang Long, BFSU President, Prof. Li Yonghui, BFSU Dean of the School of International Relations and Diplomacy, Prof. Zhao Gang, BFSU Dean of the School of European Languages and Culture, Prof. Ke Jing, Head of the BFSU Office of International Cooperation, and Prof. Ma Lin, Deputy Head of the BFSU Office of International Cooperation. The delegation was received by Prof. Wojciech Nowak, JU Rector, Prof. Adam Jelonek, Head of the JU Chair in East and South Asian Studies, Dr Joanna Wardęga, Head of the JU Centre for Chinese Language and Culture, and Dr Piotr Horbatowski, Head of the JU Center for Polish Language and Culture in the World.

In the Collegium Novum Senate Room, both parties signed the Memorandum of Cooperation.

The collaboration between the universities will be strengthened in the areas of student mobility and study programmes (including double degree programmes). It will also involve participation of the JU Center for Polish Language and Culture in the World in BFSU's project entitled China-Europe Classrom.

The Beijing Foreign Studies University is one of two most important language teaching centres in China. It offers programmes in a variety of languages, particularly Eastern European ones.  There are currently 30 people studying at the BFSU Chair in Polish Studies.
