Abassador of Ireland visits JU

On 8 October 2015, the Jagiellonian University was visited by the Ambassador of Ireland to Poland Dr Gerard Keown. He was received by the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak.

During the meeting in Collegium Novum, the Rector acquainted the ambassador with the most important facts about the Jagiellonian University. Other issues discussed included higher education in Ireland and Poland as well as the mutual links between the two countries.

Dr Gerard Keown was born in 1971. He studied modern history at Oxford University and Kobe Institute, and obtained a PhD in history from Oxford University. He entered the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs in 1996 and has held a number of positions, including the Second Secretary at the Embassy of Ireland in Vienna and the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ireland in Tokio. He also took part in the OSCE Mission to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2000. He has been the Irish Ambassador to the Republic of Poland since March 2015.
