US Deputy Chief of Mission visits JU

On 9 November 2015 the Jagiellonian University was visited by the US Deputy Chief of Mission to Poland John C. Law, together with the US Consul General in Kraków Walter Braunohler and the Public Affairs Officer Pam DeVolder.

They were accompanied by the Vice-Dean for International Relations of the JU Faculty of Law and Administration Prof. Jerzy Pisuliński.

The delegation was received in Collegium Novum by the JU Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs Prof. Andrzej Mania, who told them about various aspects of international cooperation and exchange at the Jagiellonian University, with special focus on contacts with US institutions of higher education. The discussion also focused on American Studies at the JU: their origins, purpose, and current shape. The meeting concluded with a short tour of Collegium Novum building.  

After the meeting John C. Law went to the JU Faculty of Law and Administration, where he gave a lecture "Interpreting American Constitution."

John C. Law arrived in Poland in July 2015 and serves as the Deputy Chief of Mission.  He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister Counselor.  He entered the diplomatic service in 1990.

Prior to coming to Warsaw, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Panama (2011-2014), coordinating the work of the over 25 U.S. government agencies active there.  Previously he worked at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul as State Department Director of the civilian inter-agency Provincial Reconstruction Teams, overseeing the work of more than 400 officers stationed at over 70 sites throughout Afghanistan.  Before that, he was Counselor for Public Affairs and Acting Deputy Chief of Mission in Prague, Czech Republic (2008-2010), and Embassy Press Spokesman in Madrid, Spain (2003-2007) and Caracas, Venezuela (1999-2003).  His other diplomatic postings include Santiago, Chile; Taegu, Korea and Seoul, Korea.
