On 6 November 2015, after completing all the necessary formalities, Poland was introduced into DARIAH-ERIC (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities). The decision was made unanimously by the DARIAH-EU General Assembly. In this way, Poland became a full member of the most important international organisation in the area of digital humanities.
DARIAH-ERIC membership allows Polish research institutions to cooperate with European partners in new ways. We can co-organise international workgroups, apply for European funds along with its foreign partners, and share national research infrastructure with teams from other countries.
The role of Polish National Representative was entrusted to Dr Dariusz Drewniak from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and the role of National Coordinator – to Jakub Szprot from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling of the University of Warsaw.
"It's an extraordinarily important day for the Polish humanities. We have joined the best European centres in the area of digital humanities infrastructure – a new, important field in worldwide research. Our input into DARIAH-EU will be significant. We will work to make Poland an important part of the entire organisation", said Prof. Aleksander Bursche, president of the Council of the DARIAH-PL Consortium.
