JU rises further in the QS World University Ranking

JU rises further in the QS World University Ranking

The Jagiellonian University has risen by 12 positions in one of the most prestigious rankings of academic centres in the world, QS World University Ranking, making it one of only 15 Polish higher education institutions on the list in this year’s edition. Top positions are yet again occupied by American universities.

QS World University Ranking is carried out by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds, which specialises in publications focused on education and studying abroad. It is one of the four most important educational rankings in the world, together with The Times Higher Education, The Shanghai Rankings and U-Multirank. This year, 1,002 higher education institutions have been featured in the ranking.

The ranking is based on several criteria: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), student-to-faculty ration (20%), citations per faculty (20%), and international faculty and student ratio (5% each). Each year, Quacquarelli Symonds published three separate lists, assessing the overall activity of the universities, their research efforts, and study programmes.

In this year’s edition, the Jagiellonian University was ranked at the 326th, which means a rise by 12 positions in relation to the previous year. This was caused by an increase in positive opinion of both employers and academic staff. The ranking features 14 other Polish higher education institutions, including the University of Warsaw (321) and the Warsaw University of Technology (511–540).

The top three positions are occupied by American universities: Massachusetts University of Technology, Stanford University and Harvard University.
