The series will be devoted to EAP1-NRF2 system as a cysteine-based redox sensor for our defense mechanism

Prof.  Hozumi Motohashi from the Tohoku University in Sendai is an eminent expert in the area of oxidative stress research, stem cell differentiation mechanisms, metabolism and cancer cells. As a visiting professor at the JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology, invited by the JU Department of Medical Biotechnology within the framework of KNOW, she will deliver a series of lectures on the role of NRF2 transcription factor under pathophysiological conditions, entitled KEAP1-NRF2 system as a cysteine-based redox sensor for our defense mechanism. In the USOS (University Oriented Student Management System). the series is recognised as a separate course worth 1 ECTS credit.

The lectures, delivered in English will concern the following issues:

• KEAP1-NRF2 system is a critical defense mechanism against oxidative stress and xenobiotics
• Transcriptional activation mechanism by NRF2-sMAF heterodimer
• KEAP1 as a biosensor for electrophiles and reactive oxygen species;
• KEAP1-NRF2 system in stem cell maintenance and inflammation;
• NRF2 and cancer malignancy.
