The Jagiellonian University Museum Collegium Maius will for the third time organise an exhibition of art by Adam Korpak, a distinguished Polish artist living in Finland since 1974, where he successfully developed his career as an illustrator, photographer and designer.

His works being chiefly newspaper illustrations, Adam Korpak has created his own unique and distinctive art style, as it should be in the case of such works, which have a specific purpose in the press, so difficult to achieve in photography. Illustrations offer an easier way to reach the reader than a long article. Satire, irony, humour and social commentary are their inalienable properties.

Aside from a talent for drawing, an illustrator needs to have a keen eye and a sharp mind in order to capture complex problems and present them in the form of simple pictures, which is probably the biggest challenge in the job. Living on the border of two cultures, Adam Korpak draws from his sensitivity, fears, hopes and worldview, presenting universally understandable truths. By using symbols and metaphors, he presents important values and issues in an attractive way.

The exhibition ‘Bez iluzji’ [Without illusions] will feature newspaper illustrations, bookplates and satirical drawings created between 1977 and 2017.

The exhibition will be open daily between 10.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. until 27 November. Admission is free.
