Bronze medal for JU women’s futsal team in European Universities Games 2018

For the second time in a row, the JU women’s futsal team have won the bronze medal during the European Universities Games 2018, which took place on 15–29 July 2018 in Coimbra, Portugal. The gold medal was awarded to the team from Alicante, who defeated their rivals from Moscow Polytechnic University in the final match.

Tomasz Żuradzki and Michał Németh join the European scientific elite

Dr Tomasz Żuradzki from the JU Faculty of Philosophy and Dr Michał Németh from the JU Faculty of Philology have been awarded with the most prestigious grants in Europe – the European Research Council grants. They have received nearly 3 million euro for their 5-year-long projects, which will be conducted within the framework of the Horizon 2020 programme. This year, only four of these grants were awarded to scientists working in Poland.

On 26 July 2018, the 618th anniversary of the Jagiellonian University re-foundation by King Vladislaus Jagiełło, the Professors’ Brunch was held in the JU Collegium Maius courtyard. The tradition of Professors’ Brunches was started in 2000 by the then Rector of the JU Prof. Franciszek Ziejka to mark the jubilee of that important event.

The European Commission, under the leadership of Commissioner Carlos Moedas, has recently published its proposal for Horizon Europe, the upcoming European Research and Innovation Programme for the period from 2021 to 2027. The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, of which the Jagiellonian University is a founding member, has endorsed the petition, which we publish below.

ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, an independent organisation dedicated to studying and researching higher education, has once again announced the results of the 2018 edition of Shanghai’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). The list features 15 academic disciplines available at the Jagiellonian University, with pharmaceutical sciences standing out among them.

Prof. Stanisław Migórski from the JU Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science Chair in Theory of Optimisation and Control will receive a grant of 644,000 euro within the Horizon 2020 programme's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange contest. Prof. Migórski will lead a project entitled Nonsmooth contact dynamics conducted by a consortium of 10 international universities.
