The JU ranked first as the strongest research university in Poland

According to the 2010 ranking prepared by the educational monthly "Perspektywy" and the daily "Rzeczpospolita. the Jagiellonian University is seen as the strongest research university in Poland, which enjoyes the highest prestige among academics and the highest number of publications and citations. The JU won the first place among universities offering educational programmes in the humanities and the JU Collegium Medicum won the first place among university medical schools.

Smoleńsk plane crash. JU employees among the dead.

The plane carrying President of Poland Lech Kaczyński, his wife and 94 other passengers, most of them prominent politicians and public figures, crashed at an airport near Smoleńsk in Russia on Saturday, April 10, 2010. The Polish delegation was travelling to Russia for the 70th anniversary of the Russian masscare of Polish officers in the village of Katyń. There were no survivors of the crash.
