Polish film director Andrzej Wajda passes away

On the evening of 9 October 2016, Andrzej Wajda, one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema and a founding father of Polish cinematography, passed away at age 90. In 2000, he was presented with a Honorary Oscar. He also won the Palme d’Or, the Golden Lion and the Golden Bear awards as well as the Felix European Film Award and the Japanese Kyoto Prize. In 1989, he received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Jagiellonian University.

On 7 October 2016 the Jagiellonian University was visited by a delegation from Hanban – the Chinese National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language – consisting of the Deputy Director Ma Jianfei, the Deputy Director for Confucius Institutes in Europe Wang Feng, and Wang Lei from the Department for Confucius Institutes in Europe.

On 6–7 October 2016 Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds, took part in the third European University Association forum dedicated to key issues related to funding science and higher education institutions. This year, the forum took place at the University of Porto. Its formula is very unique, since it allows for an open discussion between students, staff, experts, local government, and business representatives.
