IMPULSE Kick-off meeting at the Jagiellonian University

The IMPULSE project (IMmersive digitalization: uPcycling cULtural heritage towards new reviving StratEgies), funded within the framework of the Horizon Europe programme, was officially kicked off in the JU Auditorium Maximum. The project, coordinated by Dr Żaneta Kubic from the JU Museum Collegium Maius, received a grant of nearly 3.4 million euro, and will be carried out within the next 36 months.

Structure and mechanism of human Elongator revealed

The latest work of scientists from the Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology (MCB) of the Jagiellonian University describes the first high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structures of human Elongator and its mechanism of action. The study was published recently in Nature Communications.

The Jagiellonian University celebrates its 660th anniversary

‘Today, we remember 12 May 1364, when King Casimir the Great made the decision to found the Studium Generale in Kraków. The King knew full well that the future of the Polish state must be based on educated people’, said JU Rector Prof. Jacek Popiel in his opening remarks on the Jagiellonian University Day. Prof. Adam Strzembosz, a renowned lawyer and distinguished public figure, was a guest of honour during these celebrations, during which he received the gold Plus Ratio Quam Vis medal.

JU becomes the highest ranked Polish university according to CWUR

The Jagiellonian University was ranked highest amongst Polish higher education institutions in the Center for World University Rankings 2024 (CWUR). It is closely followed by the University of Warsaw and AGH University of Science and Technology. As usual, Harvard University is at the top of the list.

JU will have five new vice-rectors

The Rector-Elect of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Piotr Jedynak will assume office on 1 September 2024. On May 8, the names of six Vice-Rectors with whom he will cooperate during the 2024-2028 term-in-office were officially announced. The candidates proposed by Prof. Jedynak were approved by the Jagiellonian University Electoral College consisting of 238 representatives of the whole academic community.

Another researcher of the Jagiellonian University at Academia Europaea

Prof. Wojciech Bałus, head of the JU Department of Art Theory and Cultural Property Protection and the Centre for Stained Glass Studies, became a member of Academia Europaea. The researcher is the sixth member of the JU academic community to join this prestigious organisation, which brings together over 5,5 thousand scholars from all over the world.
