JU researchers co-author a paper published in Chemical Science

Chemical Science published a paper entitled On Raman optical activity sign-switching between the ground and excited states leading to an unusual resonance ROA induced chirality. Amongst its authors are two researchers from the JU Faculty of Chemistry Raman Imaging Group – Ewa Machalska and Prof. Małgorzata Barańska.

Last week, the University Hospital of Kraków has received an open MRI scanner. Due to its extraordinary weight of about 16 tons, it was transported into the building using a crane and a complex air-cushion system.

Green light to the expansion of SOLARIS synchrotron

On 4 February 2021, the Mayor of Kraków issued a building permit for the strategic project “Reconstruction and Expansion of the Solaris National Synchrotron Radiation Centre”, which will include the construction of new beamlines. The new section is planned to be opened in 2022.

Kazimierz Strzałka, Professor Emeritus of the Jagiellonian University Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology has been nominated as a foreign corresponding member of the Chilean Academy of Sciences, in recognition of his academic and personal achievements, as well as his successful research cooperation with South American scientists.

So far, in 2021 there have been numerous Mars missions, extensively covered by the media. This is due to the fact that last year several institutions sent probes to the Red Planet at a similar time, which, in turn, was caused by Mars’ great opposition that took place in autumn, meaning that its orbit was as close to Earth’s as it can possibly get. These favourable conditions allowed the United Arab Emirates to join the exclusive club of states which managed to send their equipment to Mars’ orbit.
