Who needs flowers? 17th Professors’ Brunch at the Jagiellonian University

Who needs flowers? 17th Professors’ Brunch at the Jagiellonian University

On 26 July 2017, the 617th anniversary of the Jagiellonian University re-foundation by King Vladislaus Jagiełło, the Professors’ Brunch was held in JU Collegium Maius. The tradition of Professors’ Brunches was started in 2000 by the then Rector of the JU Prof. Franciszek Ziejka to mark the jubilee of that important event.

Prof. Wojciech Nowak, the Rector of the Jagiellonian University, welcomed the participants of the meeting, including members of diplomatic corps, the JU academic community and other Polish  research and higher education institutions.

On 26 July 1400 Piotr Wysz, the University Chancellor and Bishop of Kraków, gave a lecture on Decretales Gregorii IX. Today, a lecture is still the main part of the Professors’ Brunch. This year, Prof. Bogdan Zemanek, a JU botanist, specialist in phytogeography, ecology and taxonomy of plants delivered a talk entitled “Who needs flowers”.

The official part of the meeting concluded with the JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak wishing participants a happy summer holiday.
