Ambassador of Cuba visits the Jagiellonian University

On 5 April, the Jagiellonian University was visited by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Poland Jorge Martí Martínez, accompanied by the Counsellor for Cultural Affairs of the Embassy of Cuba in Poland Mirta Alicia Karchik. They were received by JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn and JU Rector’s Proxy for Internationalisation Prof. Adam Jelonek.


The meeting was devoted to establishing cooperation between the Jagiellonian University and Cuban higher education institutions and increasing the number of Cuban students at the JU. The participants also talked about JU collaboration with Latin American universities. Prof. Jelonek discussed a special MA programme for students interested in Polish history funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and enumerated several scholarships that would aid young Cubans in studying in Kraków.

Jorge Martí Martínez graduated in English, German, and Russian Studies as well as diplomacy. From 2003 to 2008, he was the Ambassador of Cuba to Russian Federation. In the years 2009–2010, he was the Head of the Cuban Communist Party Foreign Relations. He was appointed the Ambassador of Cuba to Poland on 17 April 2017.
