The European Commission has published data according to which the Jagiellonian University is the leader among the Polish beneficiaries of Horizon Europe programme, along with the University of Warsaw and the National Centre for Research and Development. The JU has received almost 15.7 million euros for 31 projects. The grant agreements as part of the programme have so far been signed by 356 Polish entities, which are carrying out 553 projects with a total value of 257.46 million euros.
Horizon Europe is the largest EU research and innovation funding programme, with a budget of 95.5 billion euros for 2021-2027. 19.35 billion euros have already been distributed within the framework of the programme. These funds have been allocated to 5,731 projects involving 16,005 entities from 149 countries. Over 92% of this sum went to beneficiaries from the EU member states. The largest amount of funding has so far been received by Germany (3.1 billion euros), France (2.1 billion euros), and Spain (2.1 billion euros).
The largest Polish beneficiary of Horizon Europe is the University of Warsaw (15.8 million euros), whose researchers participate in a record number of 41 projects, 7 of which are coordinated by them. Almost the same amount (15.7 million euros) has been received by the Jagiellonian University for 31 projects, including 8 coordinated by this institution.
The following places on the list are occupied by: the National Centre for Research and Development (14.5 million euros, 23 projects, 1 coordination), International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (10.3 million euros for 2 projects, including one coordination), Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (7.5 million euros, 20 projects), Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (4.3 million euros, 8 projects), AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków (4,1 million euros, 20 projects), Silesian University of Technology (3.6 million euros, 7 projects), University of Gdańsk (3.4 million euros, 10 projects), and Lodz University of Technology (3 million euros, 8 projects).
The Horizon Europe programme aims to provide support to top researchers and innovators. It stimulates research excellence with the help of the European Research Council, enabling eminent researchers to extend the boundaries of science and knowledge, so that Europe is able to effectively face the upcoming social and economic challenges. In addition, the scholarships and exchange as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions help the most talented young scientists to enhance their knowledge and skills.
