JU strengthens its collaboration with a Czech University

On 29–30 November, a JU delegation led by JU Vice-Rector for Research and Structural Funds Prof. Stanisław Kistryn and accompanied by the Director of Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology Prof. Kazimierz Strzałka and JU Rector’s Proxy for Innovation visited the Palacký University in Olomouc.

The paper "Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC)–Derived Extracellular Vesicles Are Safer and More Effective for Cardiac Repair Than iPSCs", written under the supervision of Prof. Ewa Zuba-Surma from the Department of Cell Biology at the JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology was recognised as one of five best articles published in 2018 in the prestigious cardiology journal Circulation Research.

For our bodies to work correctly, we need to be protected from infections, and white blood cells play an important role in keeping us safe. But what exactly is immunity? How does it work and why is it so important? We asked Prof. Joanna Cichy from the Department of Immunology of the JU Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology to explain the intricacies of these issues to us.

The third edition of the Jagiellonian University International Model United Nations was successfully completed on the 25th November 2018. The annual 3-day conference is a simulation of a scientific conference and a role-playing game, during which the participants replicate the working groups of the United Nations Organisation, as well as acquire leadership, language, public speaking and diplomatic skills.
