Prof. Wojciech Nowak re-elected as the Jagiellonian University's rector

Prof. Wojciech Nowak re-elected as the Jagiellonian University's rector

Prof. Wojciech Nowak, the incumbent rector of the Jagiellonian University, was re-elected for another term of office (2016-2020). The election took place on Thursday, 7 April 2016. Prof. Nowak received 147 out of 195 votes. The remaining 45 valid votes were cast for his opponent, Prof. Jerzy Szwed from the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science.

 

In his post-election address, Prof. Wojciech Nowak said that wishes to be known for integrating the academic community. He announced that he will continue to firmly separate the university from political influence and reduce bureaucratic hedges that disrupt research and teaching.

Prof. Wojciech Nowak was born in 1949 in Kraków. He studied and received his PhD and professorship at the Academy of Medicine in Kraków (separated from the Jagiellonian University during the communist period). Throughout his entire career, he combined his research and teaching activities with practicing surgery. He is a member of a variety of Polish and international academic associations.
