A visit from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University

On 2 June 2016, a delegation from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University visited the Jagiellonian University. The meeting took place at the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science.

The delegation was received by Prof. Zdzisław Mach, JU Rector's Proxy for International Relations. After his welcoming speech began the technical part of the meeting, which consisted of presentations of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as well as JU faculties located at the 3rd Campus.

Aside from Prof. Mach, the JU was represented by Prof. Adam Jelonek (Head of the Chair in East and South Asian Studies), Prof. Jolanta Jura (Vice-Dean for Science and International Affairs, Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology), Prof. Wojciech Macyk (Head of the Chair in Non-Organic Chemistry), Prof. Andrzej Warczak (Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science), Dr Piotr Trzepacz (Institute of Geography and Spatial Management), and Anna Wyżykowska, (International Manager, International Relations Office).

The delegation of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University consisted of Prof. K. Y. Wong (Associate Vice-President, Research Support), Prof. H. C. Man (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering), Prof. X. L. Ding (Associate Dean, Faculty of Construction and Environment), Ivy Leung (Head of Culture Promotion and Events Office), and Wynne Wong, (Senior Manager, International Affairs Office).

The purpose of the meeting was to identify common thematic ground for research cooperation. The core objectives of the visit included: a round-table discussion with academics in science -related fields, an introduction of PolyU's PhD Programmes, Research Student Attachment Programme, Postgraduate Studentships as well as the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme to their UG students and PhD students, and a tour of JU laboratories and research facilities.
