New vice-rectors and deans assume their offices

New vice-rectors and deans assume their offices

The meeting, which was organised on 31 August in JU Collegium Maius Libraria Room, was attended by the current JU authorities and their successors. They were greeted by Prof. Wojciech Nowak, who will be leading the Jagiellonian University for another four years.

"Today's ceremony is not an extraordinary occasion. It's an ordinary administrative process. We're going to remain an academic community. Rectors and deans change, but the university remains the same," said Prof. Nowak.

Aside from Prof. Wojciech Nowak remaining the rector of the Jagiellonin University, two vice-rectors will continue to hold their positions: Prof. Jacek Popiel, JU Vice-Rector for Human Resources and Financial Management, and Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, JU Vice Rector for Research and Structural Funds. Three new vice-rectors have been chosen for the remaining posts: Prof. Armen Edigarian will replace Prof. Andrzej Mania as the JU Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs, Prof. Tomasz Grodzicki will replace Prof. Piotr Laidler as the JU Vice-Rector for Medical College, and Prof. Dorota Malec will replace Prof. Maria Jolanta Flis as the JU Vice-Rector for University Development.

After receiving special diplomas celebrating the occasion, new vice-rectors and deans signed a commemorative book.

In his closing speech, Prof. Nowak thanked the former vice-rectors and deans for their hard work and expressed his confidence that the newly elected authorities will be able to overcome any adversities that the university might face in the future.
