JU rowing team takes part in a competition in Vienna

JU rowing team takes part in a competition in Vienna

A year after the celebration of the 650th Jubilee of the Jagiellonian University, the University of Vienna also commemorated its 650-year anniversary. One of the events accompanying the festivities was an international regatta (coxed eights), organised on the New Danube. The JU rowing team participated in the competition, and with no small success.

The Austrian capital was visited by rowing teams from Germany (Aachen), England (Cambridge), Croatia (Zagreb), Italy (Venice), and Turkey (Istanbul). The competition was held at the famous Steinspornbrücke rowing course.

The regatta organised in Vienna has always been a very spectacular and popular experience, as the rowing course there is constructed in a way that allows for hosting night-time events. The finals took place after dusk, which ensured an extraordinary atmosphere. The JU team qualified to the semi-finals; however, they were bested by the teams from the University of Vienna and the University of Zagreb.

The team also met with the rector of the University of Vienna, Prof. Heinz W. Engl. He recalled his stay in Kraków with pleasure and accepted an invitation to the next year's edition of the JU regatta.

We invite all current and prospective students to take an interest in the JU rowing team and participate in sports events such as this one all over Europe.
