JU visited by a world famous architect

On Wednesday 8 January 2015, the Jagiellonian University was visited by Shinichi Ogawa, world famous Japanese minimalist architect. He was received in the Collegium Novum Senate Room by Prof. Wojciech Nowak, JU Rector.

The meeting was attended by Włodzimierz Kwieciński, President of the Traditional Karate Federation of Poland, Krzysztof Droszcz, President of the Rebel Module Global LLC Board of Directors, Paweł Janusz, President of the Traditional Karate Academy in Niepołomice, Prof. Barbara Michalak-Pikulska, Head of the JU Institute of Oriental Studies, Dr Andrzej Pikulski, head of the JU 3rd Third Campus administration, and Konrad Wełpa, Head of the JU Sports Office.

The meeting was devoted to the JU Sports and Recreation Centre, which is scheduled to be built at the 3rd Campus. The participants discussed the possibility of building a special budō pavilion within the framework of the Centre. Budō (Japanese for "martial way") is a semantically broad term, meaning not only traditional martial arts, but also a certain philosophy based on self-development and self-discipline. The initiative was proposed by the representatives of the Traditional Karate Federation of Poland and the Traditional Karate Academy in Niepołomice.

During the meeting, Shinichi Ogawa, who is ranked 5 dan in kendo, presented his previous projects using a model and several albums. He is the potential designer of the budō pavilion, which is to be built in cooperation with Rebel Module Global LLC.
