"The Wealth of Dead Trees"

On 15 April 2016, the JU Institute of Environmental Sciences arranged a discussion panel entitled Nature – more than the Białowieża Forest, during which the attendees addressed a challenging issue: to organise and classify our knowledge of the Polish environmental protection, to show its weak points, and to present possible solutions to discovered problems.

Nuremberg. Hate and justice

On Wednesday, 4 May 2016 at 9.30 a.m. in the JU Collegium Novum assembly hall, a conference entitled The Double Entendre of Nuremberg: Nuremberg of Hate and Nuremberg of Justice was organised. It marked the 80th anniversary of the introduction of the Nuremberg Laws and the 70th anniversary of the start of the Nuremberg Trials.

Ambassador of Albania visits JU

On 27 April 2016 the Jagiellonian University hosted a visit by the Ambassador of Albania to Poland Dr. Shpresa Kureta. The diplomat was received in Collegium Novum by the JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak.

A Different View: Botanical Garden – a place of experiments

On 10 April, the JU Botanical Garden opened its gates for a new season. The garden, established in 1783, is the oldest of its kind in Poland. It was erected as part of the Hugo Kołłątaj's reform, which in the years 1777–1786 restructured the university and introduced into it the concepts of Enlightenment. The garden is widely recognised for its rich plant collection – and rightly so; however, it is unique in more than one way.
