Horizon Europe Weeks

16 September marked the first time Horizon Europe Weeks (HEW) – an initiative aimed to facilitate contact between experts in various branches of science – was organised at the Jagiellonian University. The three-day meetings allow participants to discuss their research, exchange knowledge, and begin collaboration within the framework of international research projects.

Nobel laureate Frank Wilczek visits the Jagiellonian University

On 13 September 2019 the Jagiellonian University was visited by Prof. Frank Wilczek, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist. During a meeting with the JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak, the Nobel laureate signed a written consent to give his name to the award for young physicists recently established by the JU Senate. On the same day, Prof. Wilczek delivered a lecture during the 45th Congress of Polish Physicists, held in Kraków on 13-18 September.

‘Science’ publishes the latest results of GERDA experiment

The GERDA experiment aims to explore the nature of neutrinos and attempt to determine its effective mass. One of the most sensitive methods, known as the search for the neutrinoless double-β decay (0νββ) is applied in the study. GERDA is a European project involving scientists from 16 research institutes and universities from Germany, Italy, Russia, Poland, Switzerland, and Belgium.

JU philosopher receives an ERC grant

Dr Rafał Banka from the JU Faculty of Philosophy has received a prestigious grant awarded by the European Research Council. The project, entitled ‘Mereological reconstruction of the metaphysical system in Daodejing’, will be realised within the framework of the Horizon 2020 programme.
