Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko visit the oldest Polish University

On 29 June, the Jagiellonian University was visited by Crown Prince Akishino, brother of the Emperor of Japan Naruhito, and his spouse Crown Princess Kiko. The royal couple took a tour of JU Museum Collegium Maius and signed the visitor’s book. Visiting the Kraków university was part of the official visit of the Japanese heir presumptive in Poland organised in celebration of one hundred years of Polish-Japanese diplomatic relations.

On 27 June 2019 the Jagiellonian University hosted a visit from the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. The delegation, led by the Commissioner of Supervision Wu Daohuai, was received in Collegium Novum by the JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak.

University alliance featuring JU recognised as one of the first “European Universities”

On 26 June 2019 the UNA Europa network featuring seven leading research-intensive universities, including the Jagiellonian University, was granted 5 million euros of EU funding kick-start a joint strategy to consolidate a European University ecosystem. The network is among the first 17 university alliances selected by the European Commission to be granted the European University status.

Erasmus+ Staff Training Week starts at the Jagiellonian University

On 24 June 2019, the JU Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs Prof. Armen Edigarian opened the Erasmus+ Staff Training Week at the Jagiellonian University, organised annually by the JU International Relations Office. This year, the meeting is co-organised with the US partners from the Indiana University Bloomington, whose representatives have come to Kraków to run seminars and workshops together with JU staff.

Prof. Roman Kwiecień and Dr hab. Michał Kowalski from the JU Faculty of Law and Administration were appointed for six-year terms as a conciliator and an arbitrator in the Court of Conciliation and Arbitration in Europe of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The Polish members of this body will also include Prof. Anna Wyrozumska from the University of Lodz and Prof. Przemysław Saganek from the Polish Academy of Sciences Institute of Law Studies.
