A large group of asymmetrical chemical compounds can exist in two forms with the same molecular formula forming mirror images of one another, which means that they are chiral. Prof. Małgorzata Barańska from the JU Faculty of Chemistry will shed some light on this phenomenon studied by her research team, whose work has recently led to some major discoveries in this area.

KRAKsat: a satellite from Kraków

JU hosts a conference on Katherine Mansfield

On 5 July 2019, the international conference devoted to the life and work of Katherine Mansfield – a distinguished New Zealand modernist short story writer and poet - was officially opened at the Jagiellonian University. The participants were addressed by the JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak and the Ambassador of New Zealand to Poland Mary Thurston.

50 years of the JU School of Polish Language and Culture

On 4 July, an inaugural session celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Jagiellonian University School of Polish Language and Culture was held in the JU Faculty of Polish Studies assembly hall on ul. Ingardena 3. The meeting was officially opened by JU Rector Prof. Wojciech Nowak. Amongst the guests there were both former and current employees of the School as well as students participating in three-, four- and six-week language courses.

Refugee crisis as a public health challenge

20 June marked the World Refugee Day. According to the latest estimates from 2018, over 70 million people worldwide were forced to leave their homes and countries by a variety of causes. Anita Zalisz, student of the JU MC Institute of Public Health and volunteer at a refugee camp in Syria working with children, shared her insights into the issue of migrant crisis in the context of public health. European Board of Urology awards Prof. Piotr Chłosta

Prof. Piotr Chłosta, head of the JU MC Clinic and Chair in Urology, has received the European Board of Urology Golden Pin. The distinction was conferred upon him for his significant accomplishments in urological education on the European scale.

JU MC researcher among Emerging Europe Awards winners

Dr Mateusz Hołda from the JU Medical College Faculty of Medicine was awarded with the Emerging Europe Award in the category Young Influencer of the Year. The award was presented on 28 June 2019 at a ceremony in the headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London.
