On 6 November 2023 the first Ludovika Prize award ceremony was held at the Ludovika University of Public Service in Budapest. The award was presented to Professor Stanisław Sroka, Dean of the JU Faculty of History of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków.

Multicolour plumage of parrots inspires admiration and delight, but where do all these colours come from? What caused birds to develop such a wide variety of colours and how has it evolved throughout their evolution? These questions will be investigated by a research team led by Dr Miguela Carneiro from the CIBIO (Research Centre in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources - InBIO Associate Laboratory) in Portugal.

The results of the latest discipline ranking of the best universities in the world - Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) - were announced by the independent organisation ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, also responsible for the Shanghai List. In this year's edition, the Jagiellonian University was noted in 12 disciplines.

In late October, Times Higher Education published the latest edition of the annual World University Rankings by Subject. The Jagiellonian University was included in ten out of eleven categories, while taking leading positions amongst Polish universities in seven of them.

JU visited by the Consul General of Germany

On October 30, the oldest Polish higher education institution hosted a visit from the Consul General of Germany to Kraków Holger Mahnicke, accompanied by his wife Kerstin Mahnicke. They were received in Collegium Novum building by the JU Rector Prof. Jacek Popiel and the JU Vice-Rector for International Relations Prof. Dorota Malec.

30 years of SYLFF programme at the JU

On 26-27 October 2023 the Jagiellonian University celebrated the 30th anniversary of joining the SYLFF network. SYLFF - the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund – is a fellowship program aimed to support students pursuing graduate studies in the humanities and social sciences, run jointly by two Japanese institutions - the Nippon Foundation and the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research.

On 25 October, to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Goncourt Prize: Polish Choice award, the president of the Goncourt Academy, Didier Decoin, accompanied by all members of the Academy, announced this year's list of nominees. The ceremony, hosted at the Jagiellonian University, was attended by JU Rector Prof. Jacek Popiel and the French Ambassador to Poland Étienne de Montaigne de Poncins.
