On April 15 the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Wojciech Nowak visited Heidelberg University and met with its Rector Prof. Bernhard Eitel.
During the visit the JU Rector was accompanied by the Dean of the JU Faculty of Law and Administration Prof. Jerzy Pisuliński. The meeting of the rectors mainly focused on the joint Seed Money Fund project between the Jagiellonian University and Heidelberg University. Separate meetings devoted to collaboration at the faculty level were held with the leading representatives of Heideidelberg faculties of Law and Medicine. The JU delegation also took a guided tour of the new university campus and the new surgery hospital.
The collaboration agreement between the Jagiellonian University and the University of Heidelberg was signed in 1989 by the then rectors Prof. Aleksander Koj and Prof. Volker Sellin. In 1997 the collaboration was expanded to include medical faculties. The bilateral cooperation includes the exchange of academic staff, PhD candidates, and students. Since 1998 the School of German Law, run jointly with Heidelberg and Mainz universities, has been part of the JU Faculty of Law and Administration. In 2009, Heidelberg University was awarded with the Merentibus Medal for great services rendered to the Jagiellonian University. The long lasting partnership between Heidelberg University and the Jagiellonian University is characterized by a multitude of personal contacts between scholars and scientists and successful cooperation in teaching and research in various disciplines.
Established in 1386, the Ruprecht-Karl University of Heidelberg is the oldest and one of the leading universities in Germany.
