University Hospital among Siemens Healthineers reference centres

University Hospital among Siemens Healthineers reference centres

The new University Hospital of the Jagiellonian University is the largest medical complex in Poland and one of the most innovative ones in Europe. Because of the application of state-of-the-art medical technology in diagnostics and treatment, the hospital has gained the status of a Siemens Healthineers reference centre, which allows Polish physicians, managers and technicians to undergo training at this institution and exchange knowledge and experience with its staff.

‘The University Hospital of Kraków is the largest and one of the most modern medical centres in this part of Europe. Each year, over 80 thousand patients are hospitalised here and the hospital provides outpatient advice in over half a million cases. This is possible thanks to the well-prepared infrastructure and access to state-of-the-art medical technology. Many solutions implemented at the hospital, already used in the best clinics in Europe and the World, are unique throughout Poland. At our disposal, we have a system of integrated operation theatres, advanced solutions in the area of surgery, and even such modern pieces of equipment as a tomotherapy machine and a CyberKnife. But the most vital part of the hospital is the medical staff – a very well-educated and experienced team of professionals’, says the hospital Director Marcin Jędrychowski.

The agreement between the Siemens Healthineers and the University Hospital envisages medical staff training, equipment demonstrations as well as exchange of experience between physicians, technicians and healthcare institution managers on the one hand, and the practitioners, that is, users of the hospital equipment on the other. The agreement allows doctors to visit the reference centre in order to see the installed equipment and explore its clinical applications. The first such visits are planned to take place by the end of this year.

‘The University Hospital is a superbly equipped general hospital ensuring highest-quality patient care with the help of state-of-the-art medical technology. Siemens Healthineers has already been a technological partner of the Hospital for many years, providing it with diagnostic solutions both in terms of equipment and software. I am very pleased to announce that our cooperation has reached a new stage. The University Hospital in Kraków has become a Siemens Healthineers reference centre’, says Joanna Miłachowska, Siemens Healthineers Country Manager.

The new hospital complex will be fitted with several dozen pieces of Siemens Healthineers diagnostic imaging equipment: computer tomography scanners, MRI scanners, angiography systems, and over a dozen x-ray machines, including 12 mobile pieces of equipment. ‘This is very technologically advanced equipment, considerably assisted by artificial intelligence algorithms, ensuring fast, comfortable, and very accurate medical examination. For instance, one of the installed computer tomography scanners, fitted with myExam Companion set of functions, intuitively guides the users through the entire examination process and helps adapt key parameters to individual patients’, says Marek Witulski, Director of Diagnostic Imaging and Advanced Therapies at Siemens Healthineers.

The new University Hospital complex, opened in 2019, is a place where centuries-long experience meets 21st-century medical knowledge and state-of-the-art technology. The complex consists of 13 buildings with a total floor area of over 10 hectares. The hospital provides both inpatient and outpatient healthcare within the framework of 25 clinical departments, 62 outpatient clinics, and other units.
