The Jagiellonian University Institute of Mathematics is holding an academic session commemorating the late Professor Józef Siciak – one of the most eminent mathematicians in the University’s history, who educated many of the current members of the JU Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, an outstanding lecturer and academic supervisor.

The Jagiellonian University amongst the founders of a new university network

On 1 February 2019, a new university network UNA EUROPA was officially brought to life in the JU Collegium Maius Libraria Room. The agreement signing ceremony was attended by representatives of the seven founding universities, with the Jagiellonian University in Kraków among them.

Centre for Bangladesh Studies to be established at JU

On 28 January 2018, the Jagiellonian University and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Bangabandhu Centre for the Studies on Bangladesh, in order to encourage, support and develop education and research about Bangladesh and the Bangladeshi history, society, languages and culture. It will be the first such centre in Europe.

The current situation in Europe, its future, and the lessons that can be learnt from the continent’s history – these were the main topics of the meeting with the Vice President of European Commission Frans Timmermans “Citizens’ Dialogue on the Future of Europe”, attended by members of JU Academic Community, Polish young people, as well as the participants of the Italian Project “Trenno della Memoria” (“Memorial Train”), aimed at remembering the victims of the holocaust.

A somewhat substantial portion of the general population became suspicious of the procedure, as it’s one of the very few performed on healthy people, particularly children. Additionally, vaccination is quite often administered involuntarily. These misgivings are further deepened by various anti-vax movements which seek to downplay the benefits of vaccination and change the policies that regulate it.

For the last 8 years, researchers from the Jagiellonian University Institute of Archaeology have been delving deep into the history of Nea Pafos, an ancient city located in Cyprus. During the last year’s excavation season, they have discovered that it was much larger than it was previously thought.
